Welcome to Winston-Salem

Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) at Old Salem

The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA), housed in Old Salem, is the only museum dedicated to exhibiting and researching the original decorative arts of America’s early South. Guided tours of the 24 period rooms and seven galleries are offered and showcase the furniture, paintings, textiles, ceramics, and metalwares made and used in Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia and the Carolinas through 1820. Enter via the Old Salem Visitor Center. Part of Old Salem admission.

The MESDA bookstore features current and hard-to-find books on Southern decorative arts and Southern history and culture. Antique enthusiasts and collectors have labeled it a 'find.'
