On November 15th, Forsyth County’s Tanglewood Park will once again be ablaze with the 17th annual Festival of Lights sponsored by Chick-Fil-A. The Festival of Lights is open nightly through January 1, 2009 from 6:00 - 11:00 PM, including holidays.
The Festival of Lights began in 1992 as a 1.5 mile route with 25 displays. Today, the four mile route consists of 180 displays, 70 of which are animated, made with approximately one million lights. Visitors also have the chance to shop the 120 art and craft booths at the Red Barn Gift Shop or roast a marshmallow and drink hot chocolate by the fire.
Every year, Tanglewood Park adds or replaces light displays. This year, Tanglewood has added an entrance arch and four evergreen trees. Replacement displays include all new snowflakes, starbursts, new arches, poinsettia wreath as well as a new ice fountain. Refurbished displays include the portal wreath and the rocking horse (a visitor favorite).
The cost for the Festival of Lights for a family vehicle is $10 for Monday-Thursday and $14 Friday-Sunday and on holidays and “eves”. Commercial vans are $16 Monday-Thursday and $21 Friday-Sunday and on holidays and “eves”. Buses and motorcoaches are $80 everyday.
